Sir, I sincerely thank you for reading and for adding your voice. However, you seem to be refusing to follow your own advice.
You ask me to look at the “intent” of the people booing, but you refuse to look at the intent of the people kneeling. You say they are disrespecting the flag, but that is not their intent. Neither you nor I, no matter our politics can define their intent for them. They have clearly outlined their intent to be raising awareness of injustices in our country.
While I fully understand that the intent of booing was to show disdain for those kneeling, the fact remains that these people were booing during the National Anthem. So I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that the Anthem was not where they were directing their boos just as I acknowledge the kneeling players were not directing their protest at the Anthem. My point is that if you take both of those at face value, then we’re left to decide which physical act is more disrespectful — booing or kneeling.
I think the choice is clear.
Also, please don’t lump me in with “the left.” I consider myself an independent, though I grew up in a staunchly conservative background. I simply don’t believe either party has it all right.
Thank you again for reading and joining the discussion. I truly do appreciate it!
